Where we ate: Vox Table, Austin TX
Meal type: Brunch
Party size: 6
Vox Table is like that super nice sofa in your grandma’s living room, except you’re allowed to sit on it. Actually, you can have a bottle of wine and jump on it like Tom Cruise if you want.
Brunch doesn’t typically cater to the high fat, low carb crowd but the Vox menu must have been curated by a meat lover because it has plenty of paleo/primal choices.
Followers of the blog know that I’m not big on brunches but when you offer big bowls of eggs and pork belly, you’ll have my attention.
Now, I hate to open a paleo/primal post with a cheat recommendation, but you definitely have to take at least a bite of their biscuits. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, these are straight out of your grandma’s oven.
I leaned more to the lunch than breakfast side and went with:
Vox Burger: akaushi beef, lettuce, tomato, VOX Sauce, house pickle, salad (or steak fries)
The burger was perfectly cooked and sat on top of super fresh vegetables. And of course I smacked a big egg on top. Obviously, leave the bun alone.
You can also add aged cheddar and cured bacon, depending on the feast you’re looking to have.
Belle went for much more of a cheat meal, but I’ll share just so you know that I’m better at being primal than her.
Crab Benedict: butter poached crab, prosciutto, egg 63, hollandaise, bacon dust, yorkshire pudding.
Other dishes ordered by our guests at the table:
Salsa Verde Pork Hash: tenderbelly’s shoulder, sweet potato, fried egg, grilled corn, baby zucchini. roasted tomatillos.
Bacon + Egg: grilled pork belly, fried duck egg, romesco, broccolini, almond dust.
Bruschettas: tiger shrimp, broccolini, scrambled eggs, crostini, bearnaise.
Another great brunch option on the menu is the Charred Broccolini Salad (spinach, charred broccolini, fresh boquerones, fried egg, parmesan dressing).
The wait staff loves the entire menu and will be full of enthusiasm when recommending food or drinks. If you get Matty, and you love tequila, feel free to pick his brain. He’ll drop some knowledge.
Go get your primal dining on at Vox. They rock.
